join the Osusuki organized crime group... or else...



so you wanna be a gangster?
to join the mob, all you gotta do is create a character following the theme and submit it to your gallery. i won't be regulating or keeping a list of everyone involved... this is not an RP group, this is not a contest, this is just a fun excuse to create some new characters together that are all connected.... and so i have more gangster foxes to draw ;D

i only came up with rules and storylines so all the characters would have their place and relate to each other, but if you've got your own ideas go for it! create your own family within the mob, or heck create your own mob! we can be rivals >:3

background

the Osusuki Clan
the Osusuki is an organized crime group with a long history in Japan. the group has existed for centuries, and was founded by the Genko family. Now the Osusuki is comprised of several fox families, the two most powerful families are the Genko and the Nishikigoi. The Osusuki bosses are Kohaku, leader of the Nishikigoi family, and Quentin, leader of the Genko family.

structure
the mob is ruled by the two bosses working together, with Kohaku focusing more on national affairs and Quentin more involved with international business. the other, smaller families have family leaders that operate under the higher bosses. chain of command: mob bosses, family leaders, advisors to the leader, brothers (experienced members), and young brothers (new members).
families are primarily blood relatives, but there are exceptions. only red foxes (vulpes vulpes) are welcomed into the family as brothers, but other species can become a part of the Osusuki's operations as allies.

setting
mostly takes place in Japan, all over the country, but the Osusuki has influence all over the globe so characters can be based in other countries if you like. this is all taking place in the present, 21st century.

the families

the Nishikigoi family

the Nishikigoi are said to be descended from ancient water-elemental kitsunes, and they bear the koi fish as their symbol and namesake. in legend, the koi is said to swim upstream and climb the waterfalls at Dragon Gate. any koi that passes through the gate is transformed into a dragon. the Nishikigoi pass this legend on through the generations and follow its message. members are taught to be extremely ambitious and unrelenting in the face of adversity. their organization began as a "robin hood" type movement, subverting authority and building up underground movements.
personality: tend to be emotional and very driven. members are taught to value their intuition and place great trust in eachother, family bonds are extremely important. their emotional tendencies make them sensitive to other's motives, but they are often emotional to a fault... emotions may get out of control and become self-destructive or distracting. they can also be very vengeful.
appearance: generally short in stature, with some exceptions. family markings often resemble koi fish or marbled foxes, most often white with different colored patches.
additional info: Nishikigoi has several active female members, some in positions of power. Nishikigoi are interested in tradition and family history, and tend to dress plainly or in traditional outfits.

the Genko family

the Genko are said to be descended from Osusuki, one of the guardians of Inari's temple, and are extremely proud of their heritage. because of this, the unified mob was named after their ancestor. despite their heritage, the Genko behave more similarly to the nogistune (dark kitsune) in mythology than the temple guardians. they are renown tricksters and manipulators, their mission is to accumulate as much wealth, power, and influence as possible, without much regard for how it affects others. the Genko have influence all over the world, and do a lot of business in the western world. because of this, several of the members have taken non-japanese names for themselves.
personality: the Genko value independence and individuality. members are taught to be mistrustful of non-relatives, and follow the boss's orders without ever questioning. that said, several play the part of loyal son while quietly remaining power-hungry. sibling rivalry runs rampant, members compete to rise through the ranks. Genko are intolerable of weakness, and often put up a front of cold strength whether they possess it or not. if they find weakness in others, they do not ostracize them but put them on display. humiliation is their greatest weapon, and for this they are notorious blackmailers.
appearance: Genko are bigger than the Nishikigoi, and possess typical red fox looks. markings can range from natural red fox phases (red, silver, black, cross, etc) to more rare or farm-raised phases (platinums, ambers, blues, pearls, burgundy, etc). generally have solid markings rather than the patchy markings seen in Nishikigoi.
additional info: Genko fill all their positions of power with men, and in most cases women are left out of the business. daughters in the family are often frustrated with their situation since they tend to possess the same drive for power as their brothers. in some cases the females prove themselves useful, but even capable daughters may be turned down by their superiors. because of this the women are all very close. the Genko value nice things, and tend to dress in expensive clothing.

rules and restrictions
all Osusuki members must be anthro foxes, either male or female. may be any age, but keep in mind that authority grows with age and experience. if you are submitting a character to either family, its best to make the character fit the guidelines in a few ways (doesn't have to follow the entire description, variety is good!). if you are creating a blood-relative, make sure the markings fit the family and that it is a red fox. you don't have to create a blood relative to enter a family as long as other qualities of the character make it believable that the other family members would accept them into their circle. families will only accept fox species into their families! red foxes, grey foxes, arctic foxes, etc etc...
no supernatural or mythological creatures such as ghosts, spirits, kitsunes, dragons, etc. hybrids are allowed as long as they are believable; keep in mind, the Genko are not actually kitsunes, just red foxes... and the Nishikigoi are not fish/fox hybrids, they are just red foxes with markings that resemble the koi. markings can be pretty much anything you want as long as it fits the themes.

creating new families
if you have a character in mind that is a fox, but doesn't fit in the families described, you may start your own family within the Osusuki. just keep in mind that it must be a red fox family, and try to take the time to write up a bio or theme for them so they have their own unique look and story.

creating allies/enemies
you can come up with non-Osusuki characters that can be our allies or enemies... they can be whatever animal you like GO CRAZY

when you submit your art to your gallery, try to include this info with your character art/ref/whatever so if i do any gift or group art i know more about your character
